Vaettir Varriers

Ok, well here they are, the three Varriers that you get as part of the Vaettir starter set:

Lovely models, lots of dynamism in their poses and a true malevolence in their character that comes through in all of the sculpts so far. It would've been easy to go a sort of 90's GW cartoon Orcs/Orks style with them and I take my hat off to both Gav's vision at Tor Gaming and the sculptor for managing to capture that visceral edge that runs through their fluff.

I wasn't 100% sure on what style I wanted to paint them (I started them at the same time as the Vstonin that you can see in my last post) but I knew that I wanted them to sit fine on the table on a red base. I've attempted to give the impression that the outer membrane covering them is wearing thin across certain areas, or that there's some kind of inner energy attempting to burst out through it, hence the highlight through to yellow. It brings some nice contrast to the figure but left me in a little bit of a quandary about what colour to paint the eyes as my first thought prior to the skin/membrane dual colouration was to do them yellow. In the end this is what I settled upon, but took it as pale as I felt I could get away with! Time for the money shot(s):

Anyway, hope you all like! Next up will be getting down to finishing my Orcnar Beorn, who should contrast neatly with the rest of my Orcnar and cracking on with the Vaettir Vabres
